      During the rainy season, drains canals and rivers are overflown with rain water.River cannot contain amount of water and starts overflowing . Day by day the flood increases and causes damages to houses , lives , roads,bridges even kill anima. In villages, wells and cesspits too get filled with flood water. There are minor and major floods in Sri Lanka.Even without rivers or canals floods can occur . There are some who enjoy floods. That is those who go here and there boats with joy. People tie a few logs together and float o the water They enjoy the flood while refugees cry for their lost family members of families .Immediately after the flood epidemics  start.Cholera and diarrhoea some of them.

  Television is an important medium of entertainment .All can enjoy watching TV.We can have knowledge and pleasure through television.We can watch many TV programmes on different TV channels.There are a lot of programmes for small children. There are many valuable programmes telecast on television , like news , discovery , sports and educational programmes.These programmes help children to improve their knowledge .Little children like to watch cartoons.Many people are fond of watching teledramas.Some programmes are not suitable for children .We should select good programmes for our children.Watching television helps us to know more about the world.

        There are various kinds of wild animals in the forests.Among them elephants,tigers,deer and wild buffalo are common.Of these some animals eat leaves while others eat the flesh of other animals . Animals can be seen at sanctuaries. When we go to the zoo we can see them, but not freely.They are kept in cages or in dens.They cannot harm us.Unlike in cages , these animals look beautiful and natural when they are in forests.They live a happy life in the forest.We have to safeguard ourselves  without provoking them.

      We went on a trip to visit the ceramics factory one saturday morning and we were wearing neat uniforms.We took our lunch and sweets.The special bus was waiting at our school gate.I was sitting on a seat with my best friend.Our teachers got into the bus too.The bus started at 8.00 a.m. We were very happy and started singing and clapping . The bus came to the Nathtandiya ceramics factory .    The manager arrived and we were taken around the factory .There were various kinds of palates, cups , jugs ,tea-pots etc.in the factory .Unfinished plates, cups , jugs were in another section Next we had cool drinks.After that we went to Negombo.We reached the school gate at 6.00 p.m. Our parents were at the school gate I went home with my father. It was a very happy trip.

      Dutugemunu was a great king.He was born in the Ruhunurata.His father wad king Kawanthissa and his mother was queen Viharamahadevi.He had only one brother . He was Tissa.Prince Dutugemunu had a religious education .He was very brave  in his childhood.He had ten giants. King Dutugemunu defeated king Elara.He built many temples and shrines.Ruwanweliseya,Mirisawetiya and Lovamahapaya were built by king Dutugemunu .He rendered unique service to the Buddha Sasana and united the country.King Dutugemunu loved his motherland and Buddhism very much.

  Environment means our surroundings.It is made up of waterfalls , valleys , mountains,trees and many other things.Today the environment is being polluted and it is in danger . Because when the environment in danger ,the ozone layer is damaged.There are many kinds of pollution. They are water,sound,air and earth pollution , Sound pollution comes from different noises that fills the environment , Earth pollution comes from dumping garbage, polythene bags,glass and plastic in the environment.Air pollution is caused by releasing smoke from factories and different kinds of vehicles.when chemicals and garbage are rereleased into waterways , water pollution takes place. In these ways our environment gets polluted.Its a danger to all kinds of birds,animals , and all living creatures.All of them suffer from it.Due to the polluted air,different kinds of diseases spread everywhere , not only for human beings but also to all living creatures on the earth.So we must not pollute the environment...

       A fisherman is a useful man.He lives in a hut near the sea together with his family. He wears an old sarong, banian and a hat on his head.He is not a wealthy man.He is a very active person.He works very hard.At sea he faces many hardships and dangers.When a strong wind blows,his boat may sink or hit rocks and be broken into pieces.He faces these dangers specially in the monsoon season. He goes fishing at night.Therefore he is able to catch a lot of fish.When he goes fishing , he takes a fishing net, and a basket to collect the fish.A lantern is always with him .  He goes to the sea at night and returns the next morning.Then he begins to sell the fish.He goes on the bicycle with his basket hung on his back.He goes down the road and comes daily to our house too.In the morning the fish are expensive but in the evening they are rather cheap.Sometimes he preserves the fish and dries them.He is unhappy because on rainy days some people do not buy fish.He gets a...

    I visited the Dutch period museum situated at Prince street, Pettah.This building earlier belonged to the Dutch Governor , Thomas Van Rahee.This museum has a large collection of antique furniture.The baby crib which was made of ebony and stain wood was the cutest among them The tables , chairs and beds were all used by the Dutch Governor.The most fascinating thing was the glass painting of a mother and a child .This painting was done with different colours including gold.The cooking utensils were interesting .There were moulds of different shapes used to make sweets. Sri lankans have taken many culinary items from the Dutch.All kinds of weapons used by them are still to be seen .I enjoyed looking at these things and was surprised to see them.This made me read and study about the Dutch period in our history.I wish that other children would get a chance to visit this lovely place.

        We live in a planet.It is called Earth.It is the only living planet in our solar system .Our planet goes round the sun with seven other planets.They are the planets Mercury , Venus , Mars , Jupiter , Saturn , Uranus and Neptune.Mercury is the planet nearest to the sun.Neptune is the planet farthest from the Sun.The biggest planet is Jupiter.Saturn has beautiful rings around it.Our planet Earth is between the planet Venus and Mars.The sun and the eight planets make up our solar system.The path of the planets round the sun is called the orbit.

       As an active school kid,dashing out of the classroom the moment the interval bell rings,to join friends in the playground must be natural to you.Although some parents may not like this,being involved in outdoor sporting activities is very important to all growing children .It is through sports that you will grow healthy bones and muscles wich will support you later im life.Getting enough exercise is just as important to growing kids as eating the right,balanced meals.Childhood and adolescence are the most important times to build strong bones.Being outdoors will improve your healthy in any case as the fresh air is good for you.However this does not mean that you should spend all.your time playing with your friends forgetting your studies altogether.Education is the most important thing to a child.For you to be a healthy individual in every way, there should be a balance between studies and sports.One would be useless without the other.So always maintain a good...

  Anuradhapura is a very old city.A long time ago it was the capital of sri lanka.We can see the ruins of the buildings of the old city even today.Many powerful kings ruled the country from there.Jaya Sri Maha Bodiya is in the Anuradhapura City.It is a very sacred place for Buddhists.Ruwanvalimahaseya Dagaba is another important place in Anuradhapura.There are samadipilimaya and many dagaba in this city.There are so many large tanks we can see in the city such as Tissa weva.Kala weva and Nuwara weva.We must protect these ancient places for our future generations.

    My favorite author is Mr.Martin Wickramasinghe.He was born on 29th May in 1890.He was only one boy in his family.He was a student of Bounavista College in Galle.His first novel was Leela.He wrote so.many novels. He authored many books including Gamperaliya,yuganthaya, kaliyugaya,Madol duwa etc.Gamperaliya is a famous novel written by him.He died in 1976.I like him and his books

        Sinhala and Tamil new year comes on 13th and 14 th April.It is a national festival.People get ready for this festival several days earlier.They clean their houses and colour wash them.During this time the farmers have gathered the harvest and people are free.We get new clothes and presents from our elders.On the new years day we do all work in at Nekath times.We fulfil many observance on the new years day.Therefore the new year is a very important part of our culture.

        The day of the sunday fair is a happy day for the villagers. The villagers sell their garden produce at fair. They take their produce like pumpkins,ash plants etc to the fair. Some people sell mats,doormats, brushes, rattan baskets, coconut scrapers, brooms etc. People start visiting the fair from the early morning hours. The fair gets crowded with people. The sunday fair is a happy day for the villager.

    Mahathma Gandhi is one of the greatest men of the century who has been admired by the whole world.He was born on October 2,1869.Porbandar in Gujarat India.Hewas known as the father of the nation.Whe n Mahathma Gandi was seven years old he went to school and he was an average student. After he completed his studies in college,his father advised him to go to England ,for higher studies.He went there and then went to South Africa.When he was there he found that his countrymen were suffering under the British laws.He returned to India and started this non violent movement against the British rulers.He was sent to jail many times. Many people from parts of the world followed him.After a long struggle the British Government finally granted independence to India in August , 1947.He was well known for his good qualities of honestly ,kindness and devotion to religion.He was a man who had much sympathy for the poor and needy.He showed the world the way to achieve one's goal in peace...

        The sports meet of my school was held on the 21st on March.The chief guest was Mr.Dissanayaka.He is an education director. There are three houses in my school.They are ''Gemunu'' , '' Vijaya ''and ''Prakkrama ". My house is vijaya. There were many events.They were 100 meters, 200 meters.high jump, long jump,relay race,cricket,football and cadet. Our house came to second. I enjoyed it very much

             The kandy Perahera is held in the Esala month. It is a beautiful perahera. The whip crackers go in front of the perahera after them we can see flag bearers. They carry Buddhist flags. Drummers, dancers, Nilames and elephants are in the perahera. Elephants are beautifully caparisoned. Everyone likes to see the perahera. Even foreign tourists come in large numbers to watch this.This procession beautifully shows our culture.

         It was a Sunday. It was about ten'o clock in the morning. Unlike on other morning the surroundings were swaying in the wind. The sky was full of dark clouds.The wind was cool.There was lightning and thunder in the sky.We were terribly frightened. Suddenly it began to rain.After a little while it grew in strength and turned into a driving rain.We made paper boats and sailed them on water.

              Madoldoowa is my favourite book. My father gave it to me. Ii was written by Mr. Martin Wickramasinghe.  It is very interesting book. It was written about two young boys. They are the main characters in this book. They are Jinna and Upali. I read this book many times because I like it very much.

       Communication is the act of exchanging information , news , ideas etc.We have different methods for communication. In early times people used many methods.They used birds to send letters and drummers called Anabera also as a method of communication.But today we use radio,TV,telephone,internet etc.These methods are much easier than the old methods.These are popular among many people today. In today's society , anyone can quickly learn about any event happening anywhere through social media.

 The Olympic games are a multi-sport competition held every four years. The olympic games started in ancient Greece in 776 b.c and they were held in Athens. In the ancient Olympic games there were only a few sporting events and only men could take part in them. But today there are a lot of sporting events in the modern games and both men and women can take part in them. In the Olympic  games of today the winners receive medals. In the Olympic games held in the year 1948 and 2000 Sri lanka won silver medals.

                    I have a beautiful home garden. It is a small,but we keep it very clean. There are lot of flowers and vegetable beds in it.We take vegetable from our garden. There are brinjals,chilly in it. Roses,jasmines and anthuriums are also in my garden. We water them every day.There is a pond. Little birds and butterflies come to my garden.

  My grandmother is Mrs.Ranjani.She is seventy years old.She is fair. She is a House wife.She can cook well. She tells me stories and teaches me songs. She gives us sweets. She is fond of reading books. She observes sil on poya day. she loves us and we love her too.
